Waiting on Wednesday: Untamed by S.C Stephens

So for the last month or so I have been tossing around the idea of doing Waiting on Wednesday posts on my blog but for some reason just kept putting it off. I've decided that I will do them but I will probably only do it every now and then and not every week. That way when I do put a Waiting on Wednesday post up you will know that the book must be truly amazing for me to be doing a post on it. 

The first book I am featuring is the fourth book in a series that not only introduced me to new adult books but also completely knocked my socks off along with every other article of clothing. I am of course talking about the Thoughtless series by S.C. Stephens and the fourth book in the series is Untamed. The first three books in this series were all about Kellan and Kiera but now it is bad boy Griffin's turn. Griffin is one of those character's where throughout the series you never quite knew if you liked him or hated him so this book should be really interesting.

This book is getting released on the 3rd November so keep an eye out for my review around that time cos you just know that I will be reading and reviewing this one the very second that it is released. Kawaii Box - September Unboxing

I think that this is my last Kawaii box cos I only had a six month subscription. At this stage i've decided not to renew it cos i'm trying to cut costs but I wouldn't rule out maybe getting it again in the new year once i've had a chance to try out a few other boxes. I always loved getting the Kawaii Box because it was full of so much cuteness. You're able to use most of the products each month and what I couldn't use I passed on to my nieces. You generally receive 10 - 12 Kawaii items and the Kawaii Box is set up with a few different subscription options. I was signed up to the 6 month subscription which ended out being $17.90 per month which is really cheap considering what you get. They also do a monthly subscription and that will cost you $18.90 per month. They also have a Japan Candy Box which I subscribed to on a monthly basis and i'm currently waiting for that box to arrive. If you're interested in the Japan Candy box it is $18.90 for 6 months and $19.90 for a monthly subscription. Its funny because even though the Kawaii Box is shipped from overseas it generally arrives before the end of the month which is amazing service. Between all of my subscription boxes I have received so many DIY candy kits so I really need to use them up. It is a long weekend here in Western Australia so I might pull them all out and give them all a whirl. Might even see if the husband wants to get in on the action and help me out. I was quite happy with this box. I loved the shoe laces, the pen, the pencil case and my favourite item the neko plush. There wasn't really anything here that I didn't like so it was a definite win this month. In one way i'm sad to see the end of this box but I have so much stuff to use up. I think if I did decide to subscribe again I would probably do it on a monthly basis so that I could take a break from it every months.

October TBR Pile

I went out last night for a hens party and I'm feeling pretty crappy this morning so what better time to do up a post right. So September has been an absolutely crazy month. I didn't get a lot of reading done and I have a feeling that October is going to be very similar. It is just proving to be too hard to get any reading done while we are having all the renovations done at work. We still have a few days left in September but I do still have two of last month's books to read. I know i'm terrible. This is the first month that I haven't completed my monthly TBR pile but I should have both books read by next weekend so it's all good. I promise to be better next month and actually get through the books a little quicker. The standout books for me in September were You by Caroline Kepnes and Wrong Number, Right Guy by Elle Casey so definitely go check those out and here is what i'm planning to read next month:

• Series Read: Last month I finished the Will Trent series by Karin Slaughter so now I will be moving on to another series. I recently restarted the Lucky Santangelo series by Jackie Collins so I will be reading the second book in that series Lucky. I forgot how much I enjoyed this series and i'm really enjoying my re-read so far.

• Husbands Pick: Each month I get my husband to pick out a random book for me from my TBR List. This time though I made him choose a random book from my Kindle as I have so many books to get through before I start getting more. This month he chose Troll by Ashley C Harris. I recently picked this up through the Kindle Scout program and i'm really excited to read it.

• Take Down That TBR: Each month I pick up the first book that is listed on my TBR list and this month it is Creep by Jennifer Hillier. I love a good creepy story and this sounds like it is going to be right up my alley so expect to see the review for this one very shortly.

• October Book of the Month: This months book of the month is going to be On The Edge by Allison Van Diepen. I've wanted to read this one for ages so i'm so happy that I finally get to pick it up. I really enjoy gang stories for some strange reason so this should be awesome.

• Wildcard Book: Just like last month I again knew what I was picking as my wildcard this month ages ago because I kept meaning to buy this book but would then forget. This book has been everywhere you look this year so i'm really excited to finally be picking it up and it is The Wrath and The Dawn by Renee Ahdieh. 

I feel like this is a really good mix of books for October and I can't wait to get started on it. I think my problem with September was that there was a lot of books I was only half excited for whereas I am excited for pretty much all these books. I'm hoping to move through my books a little quicker this month so hopefully you will see more reviews very soon.

Confess by Colleen Hoover

Why do you look so sad Owen? We're going to fix your shit remember.

Okay so don't hate on me but I have to admit that I did struggle through this book a little bit. The writing was really good and I couldn't fault the way that it was written. I guess it was all just too much sometimes. I mean let's be completely honest here there was just so much freaking never ending drama and when there wasn't drama there was too much soppiness. I think the highlights from the book were pretty much any moments where Emory showed up and any moments where Owen and Auburn were just being quirky rather then cliche. 

The thing that I loved the most about this book was the art work and how the art work was created from other people's confessions. I tell you what if there was a monthly exhibit near me that featured art work based on this premise I would be there every month without fail. 

I've read a few Colleen Hoover books now and I don't know what to say. I know that everyone loves her books so I kinda feel like maybe there's something wrong with me but I have always just liked them. Unfortunately I can't actually say that any of them have really blown me away yet. I have got her next book Number 9 on my TBR list so hopefully that will be the book of hers that blows me away.

As I mentioned earlier this month I've given up a few of the beauty subscription boxes in favour of food boxes cos who doesn't love food! I ordered this box and then realised with the current exchange rate how expensive it was so I figured I would only get the one box. Yeah well forget that shit cos I've ordered another box and I reckon I will continue to get it on a monthly basis. Does it fit in with my clean, healthy eating diet no way but we all need to have snack food around as well. Tokyo Treat offers a number of subscription box sizes and this is the premium box which is the biggest. The premium box will set you back 35 US Dollars each month. I have to point out that it is US Dollars because our exchange rate is so terrible at the moment that this box actually ends out being around 50 Australian Dollars. Each month you should receive 13 to 17 full size candy and snacks and this will include 2 DIY kits and 1 special item. Let's take a look at what I received this month:

I couldn't believe how much food was in this box it was amazing. I'm really excited for the Rilakkuma Pretzels and the Bake Cookies and Cream Flavour Chocolate. I am scared of the Genghis Kan Caramel, the Fatty Tuna Potato Chips and the Red Bull Taste Hunter Gummies. I am also hopeless at the DIY Kits so they should be very interesting. I have to say that I was surprised at how amazing this box was. I guess I should hold off on judging it until I have tasted everything but at first glance it looks like a very interesting mix. I've actually ordered the Japan Candy box from the same people I think that do my Kawaii Box so it will be interesting to compare the two boxes.

Marie Claire The Parcel - Spring Edition - Special Anniversary Edition

I think I am probably one of the last people to receive their spring edition box. I swear for the last two weeks I have just been watching everybody else's unboxings so there was obviously no surprises for me when I finally opened mine. That's what I get for being such an impatient biatch. I love receiving The Parcel and was sad to see the Girlfriend edition disappear. I did try the Ageless Beauty box and it was good but not really the kind of products that I am after at this stage in my life. This is a quarterly subscription box and because of that I feel like the products are much better value then what you receive in the monthly subscription boxes. This box will set you back $25 every 3 months if you go with a continuous subscription but they do offer a variety of subscription packages. You definitely get your money's worth with this subscription box and the value of the boxes always blows my mind. So let's take a gander at what we received for the season of Spring:

John Frieda Frizz Ease Smooth Start Hydrating Shampoo and Conditioner: My god that's a mouthful. My hair is seriously losing the frizz battle lately and John Frieda is a brand that I love receiving. They are fantastic products but just a little out of my price range so I can't begin to explain how excited I was to receive these. Recommended Retail Price is $15.99 each. 250ml each.

Clinique Smart Custom-Repair Serum: Is it just me or do you feel very, very fancy when you receive a Clinique product. I feel that by just owning this sample I have become a little more upper class. In all seriousness though I don't mind serums. They aren't something that I buy myself so i'm always happy to receive them in subscription boxes. Recommended Retail Price for 30ml is $80 and we received a 10ml sample.

St. Tropez Gradual Tan In Shower: If you've hung around my blog or me in person you will know that I can't stand tanning products so I was not happy to see this in the box. I can't even pass this on to anyone as none of my friends or family use tanning products either. I will have to look around and find a home for it. Recommended Retail Price for 200ml is $39.99 and we received a 50ml sample.

MOR Rosa Noir Hand and Body Milk: I've received a number of the MOR creams throughout all the subscription boxes and it has been very hit and miss. For the most part the texture and feel of it has been amazing but I haven't been a huge fan of the scents. The smell of this one though is amazing and is definitely something that I will be wearing all the time. It's a shame that it's so expensive. If it wasn't for the price I would definitely purchase this. Who am I kidding even at that price I'm debating it. Recommended Retail Price for 350ml is $34.95 and we received a 50ml sample.

Redwin Coconut Balm: This is one of those ointments that you're meant to be able to use just about everywhere. I personally have been chucking it on my lips cos I suffer from very dry lips and the smell of this is amazing. I love coconut so this balm is perfect for me. Recommended Retail Price is $5.99

L'oreal Paris Colour Riche Lipstick: I was really excited about this until I saw the shade that I got. I got Perfect Red which would probably suit a lot of people but it generally doesn't suit me. I will give it a go tomorrow but I am not holding out a lot of hope. A shame really cos I could use some more lipsticks. Recommended Retail Price is $21.95

Estee Lauder Modern Muse Le Rouge EDP: I sadly did not receive this in my box. I'm not sure what happened and I went back and went right through the box but it definitely wasn't there. It's a shame cos I would've loved to have tried this. Recommended Retail Price is $120 for 50ml and other people received a small sample of this.

Overall I was really happy with this box. The standouts for me were definitely the shampoo and conditioner, the coconut balm and the hand and body milk. The low points were definitely the tanning product and the fact that I didn't receive the perfume. As you can see from the above though the value that you get for your money is incredible and this is easily a box that I will continue to get.

R.I.P Jackie Collins

Like many others I awoke to the news this morning that Jackie Collins had passed away. I still remember the first ever Jackie Collins book I read which was American Star. I remember being a teenager and feeling so adult and rebellious for reading it. I then followed it up with Chances which is the first book in the Lucky Santangelo series. Over the years I then read many more of her books and enjoyed every one of them. Luckily for me my mum collected Stephen King, Dean Koontz and Jackie Collins so I always had a good selection of books nearby. There is nobody who writes sensual romance stories like Jackie Collins. She was a true goddess when it came to writing about money, power and of course sex.

In honor of the one and only Jackie Collins I will be going back to where it all began for me and will spend next weekend (long weekend woohoo) reading American Star and Chances. I will then be making the Lucky Santangelo series my next series read. From memory when I last read it I think I stopped about half way through. All I can say is look out husband!

Defective by Kayla Howarth

He may end up with a crooked nose, but it should've been illegal for him to be that good-looking in the first place. This will just be karmic justice.

Defective is the third and final book in the Institute series and although I am sad to see the end of this series I also feel that it has finished up well and at the right point. Of the three books this was probably my least favourite but that's not to say it was a bad book it just goes to show how awesome the first two were. I think my main problem with this book was the person who was missing. You don't realise how much someone adds to a story until they are gone. I tried over and over again to give Jayce a go and I did love him as a character but to me the romance just wasn't the same. It also really killed me seeing Allira be the way that she was for the first half of the book. Part of my love for this series was Allira and her feistiness and although we did get that part of her back I think it took a little too long to get that part of her back. What can I say i'm an impatient person.

I loved all the usual characters like Drew and Tate and also liked the new editions of Jayce and his family. The story flowed quite nicely but I felt like it dragged a little in some places. I dunno I guess I wanted a bit more action but that probably just comes from having two very action packed books before this one. The twists at the end did surprise me a little bit and the ending was beautiful.

Kayla Howarth has definitely been a standout author for me this year and I am so glad to have found her. I urge you all to give this series a go. The first book The Institute is currently free on kindle and you can pick up the other two books in the trilogy for like $6. Cheap as chips baby! For now though I will have to bide my time and do the occasional stalking to find out when the next book by Kayla Howarth will be getting released.

Wrong Number, Right Guy by Elle Casey

I'm not ashamed to say that I screech pretty loudly at that point, and it isn't one of those really cute lady-screams either. More like a crazy chicken being unsuccessfully strangled.

Thank you to Amazon Publishing and NetGalley for providing me with a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I admit that whenever I start a book that I have received for free I feel a little anxious because they can be very hit and miss. Had I known from the start that Elle Casey is the same Elle Casey that wrote Shine Not Burn then I would've known that I had nothing to worry about. So far she is two from two with me and I have loved both books. This book was such an amazing surprise. It has been a long time since a book has had me smiling and laughing out loud while I was reading it. The story flowed rather nicely and I enjoyed the training that May was receiving. I would've liked a little more backstory on the bad guys and maybe some chapters where we could've seen what the baddies were up to and what their thought processes were on May.

May was such a fantastic character who came across as a little ditzy but was actually quite smart, funny and definitely kick ass. I will admit that for the last say 30% of the book she did frustrate me quite a bit with her sudden insecurities and dare I say slight patheticness. As a fellow dog lover I appreciated all the Felix and Sahara moments and loved the interactions and relationships between the leading characters and their pet babies. Ozzie, wow I don't even know where to start with Ozzie except feel free to break me off a piece of that hunky fella. Seriously a kick ass guy who is muscled, and an amazing cook! Oh yeah sign me up right now. 

I love the idea of The Bourbon Street Boys and this is easily a series that I could see myself getting caught up in. I had shamefully forgotten about Elle Casey so now that she is back on my radar again I will definitely be checking out more of her books. 

Wrong Number, Right Guy is being released on the 22nd September so pre-order it now and show some support for such a fantastic author.

I know it has been a while since I did an edition of Free Book Friday but I do have my reasons. My TBR Pile is getting out of control and to be honest Friday's have just been crazy lately. The book i've chosen today is actually a book that I read ages ago and I loved it. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw that it was still being listed as a free book as it is well worth paying for. This book started my love for not only the series but also the guys at the Heaven Hill Motorcycle Club and I have read 5 of the 7 books that are currently out. I'm also looking to pick up the next two as my series reads for the next two months. I would urge all of you to go and pick up this book while it is still free. You won't regret it!

I Was Here by Gayle Forman

This story starts off with a bang and instantly breaks your heart when you read Meg's suicide note:

It's been a long time since i've picked up a Gayle Forman book and I had completely forgotten just how beautiful her writing is. Her stories are so easy to read and this book was just as fantastic as all her previous books. I liked how all of the friendships and relationships played out and that they weren't just forced on us. The characters were very well defined and they all had their likable moments even the slightly ruder characters like Tree. I wish we could have seen a little more from Richard and was half hoping for a love story between him and Cody. In saying that though I am happy with Cody's relationship choice and how that all played out.

Suicide can often be a very hard thing to write about and it can be hard to get that balance correct so that you don't end out offending anybody. I think that Gayle Forman wrote Cody and Meg's story really, really well. It's such a tough subject and I honestly found myself getting so upset while reading this. To see not only Cody and Ben's grief and guilt but also the grief of the family was just so hard to read about. I got so angry when I was reading about the Final Solution boards and the encouragement on those boards. It really sickens me to think that this is something that could be happening right now online somewhere.

If you haven't already be sure to check out not only this book by Gayle Forman but also her previous books as i've loved every one of them. I can't wait to see what she will be releasing next and whatever it is I can guarantee that I will be picking it up.

Camirelli Melts Crate - September Unboxing

The smells that were coming from this box were just amazing. This is my second Camirelli Crate and it has quickly become my favourite monthly subscription box. They offer a number of different crates on their site which range from $25 to $40. The first month I purchased the main Camirelli Crate which was $40 and offers you a wide range of all their products. The second month I got the melts crate for $25 which is much better suited to my needs. This subscription box doesn't run concurrently unless you order a 3 month subscription so you need to remember to order each month. I actually like this idea because if you start to accumulate too many products or don't like the monthly theme you can just skip it and not purchase. I like that you're not automatically bound to every box every month. I have already put in my order for next months Melts crate and I think it is a box that I will continue to get monthly. With the monthly melts box you receive two full size melts and 10 sample melts. Which I think is a perfect amount to receive on a monthly basis. You also get a print out saying what is in each melt so you can pick a melt to match your mood. Here is what I received in my box this month which was themed Lush:

2. Cherry Blossom: Top notes of oranges sweeten this flowery blend, balanced with fern and green notes.

Sample Size:

2. Candy Fluff: Strawberry sundae with creme and fluffy marshmallows.

3. Dirty: Spearmint with sandalwood, oakmoss, tarragon, thyme and lavender.

4. American Cream: Vanilla fragrance with herbal notes of clary sage and lavender.

6. The Comforter: Orange and bergamot with a touch of floral combined with clove, cinnamon, patchouli and minty pennyroyal with vanilla and mush at the base of the scent.

I always love reading the clever names on each product from Camirelli and the complex nature and scents of the melts is just amazing. In next months unboxing I will let you know what my favourites were from this box. I am going to use the candy fluff melt tonight and i'm also excited to try the american cream, supa nova and karma. They all sound just amazing though and I can't wait to get started on them. Definitely check out Camirelli Crate as they offer amazing products and are just amazing people. I am yet to be disappointed and like I mentioned previously this has quickly become my favourite subscription box.

Significance by Shelly Crane

I'm not a baker, so i'm not about to sugar coat it for you.

Well said Gran! Firstly a big thank you to NetGalley and Red Coat PR for providing me with a free copy of this book. I have been trying to read this book for a week now and sadly at 78% of the way in I am just going to DNF it. I've gone to DNF it so many times throughout the past week but was really pushing myself to move forward and finish it. When I say I was pushing myself I truly mean it. It was a struggle to wanna pick up this book. Don't get me wrong it started out okay but the more it went on the more I found myself getting frustrated and just completely disinterested. I was reading the story but at the same time I just couldn't concentrate on it and I was thinking about everything else but the book that I was reading. It honestly just felt like it was going on forever and that I was getting nowhere.

I can't completely fault the book. Maybe me not believing in soulmates is part of the problem. Maybe if I believed in soulmates I would've found this to be a very romantic story rather than just an eye roll fest. I really liked Caleb and Maggie at the start but as the story progressed it became less about themselves and everything was about them as a "we." Kyle would've had to have been the most whiny and annoying character that I have come across in a very long time. I truly believe that if he had've been in front of me I would've smacked the crap out of him. I did enjoy the scenes with all the family together and also any time that Gran was mentioned. 

This book is available to read on NetGalley and is also free on Amazon so if you're big on romance books definitely grab it and give it a whirl. Due to my frustrations with the book I obviously won't be continuing on with the series.

Sometimes, you just want to go where it's dark, you know.

This book was unlike anything that I have read in a very, very long time. I'm struggling to find all the right words to describe just how this book made me feel. For starters it absolutely creeped me out. Going into this book the main word i'd been hearing to describe it was creepy and I completely agree. After finishing it I would sum it up by saying yeah it's very creepy. Not only is it creepy but Caroline Kepnes also leaves you questioning your own sanity and morals. I mean Joe is a creepy, messed up dude who has no problems with killing people and stalking people and yet I feel sorry for him! How, how is it that you become attached to a character like Joe. How is it that you get so caught up in his emotions that you have to stop yourself from cheering for him because as much as he sucks you in at the end of the day he is still a creepy creeper pervert.

This story was made up by a host of unlikable characters and yet you can't put the book down. I thought that Beck was a terrible character and as messed up as it sounds I couldn't understand why Joe was so obsessed with her. There were so many moments where I thought he was going to realise this but he didn't and I dunno I just didn't find her to be all that stalkable. Which is probably a messed up way of thinking right but that's just how this book get's you thinking. This book also makes you incredibly paranoid. It took me a few days to get through this and I swear just about every male I came across was in my mind a potential Joe. In fact the day I started reading this a guy came up to our office and because we are doing constructions at the office I was on my own and internally I was freaking out and thinking oh my god is this guy a Joe.

I have mixed feelings about the writing and the progression of the story. It took a bit to get used to and I think at first I found the writing to be a bit too clinical. As the story went on though I got used to the writing style and I found it to be very dark and almost poetic like. I'm not ashamed to admit that there was quite a few references that went right over my head and the twitter speak took a bit to get used to. Once you get past those minor things though this really is a fantastic read. The story for the most part was well paced but it did lose me a bit around the Karen and Nicky part. I think the story could've progressed fine without all that extra carry on. I loved the ending and I can not wait to get my hands on Hidden Bodies. There aren't a lot of books that I buy as soon as they are released but I have a feeling that Hidden Bodies will be one of them.
